Abstract

The author evaluates the progressive process of rapprochement between Vietnam and Japan during the transition to a strategic partnership (2011) and the rise of relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership based on statements made by the leaders of the two countries in November during the visit of the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to Japan and in December 2023 – the Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic. The stages of this process, its determining factors, priorities and the characteristics of cooperation between two parties in trade and economic, humanitarian and military-technical areas are considered. An overview of the importance of the interaction between the two countries in terms of national interests and geopolitical challenges is also provided.
