Abstract
Guyana, until recently one of the few countries with no official television service, has initiated limited television to support nation building and economic development. This English-speaking nation—independent since 1966—has found it has to contend with strong marketplace forces. The study speculates that public tastes may already be too shaped by the market for the government to influence them.
