Abstract

This essay explores video game cybersubjects and the myths surrounding video game violence and its addiction, made possible through new forms of interactive media. Three psychic structures – psychotic, obsessive and hysterical – are developed to better grasp why a moral “panic” has emerged concerning these games. I develop the concept of “interpassivity” to further our understanding of why the addictive potential of video games continues to make them controversial.
