Abstract

SUMMARY Forty-one bulls positive to Vibio fetus venerealis have been vaccinated with a vaccine of killed V. fetus intestinalis organisms suspended in incomplete Freund adjuvant. Thirty (70 per cent) were found free of V. fetus after one injection, the remaining 11 (30 per cent) after a second injection. None of 288 V. fetus -negative bulls, serving in an infected area, became infected during the year following a single injection of 5 ml of vaccine. It can be concluded that vaccination of bulls is a safe and highly effective procedure for the treatment and prevention of V. fetus infection in bulls.
