Abstract

A formulation for the vibrations of plane frames and trusses with inclined members including both axial and transverse vibrations is presented. The vibrations of two- and threebar frames with various end conditions are studied. With the slenderness ratio as a parameter, the frequency spectra with respect to the angle of inclination, α , of the side bars are depicted along with some typical normal modes. The results indicate that, for such frames, the axial and lateral vibrations are coupled for 0° α α =0° and 90°. This coupling effect is appreciable even for the basic modes.
