Abstract
Through the years various investigations were performed at NLR on different slender structures subjected to dynamic wind loading. As examples, the research on a cable-stayed bridge and a traffic sign gantry is discussed. The bridge was primarily investigated in the wind tunnel on “vortex-induced” vibrations whereafter full-scale measurements were carried out. The sign gantry appeared to be sensitive to “galloping” oscillations at the site, which was confirmed later on by wind tunnel tests.
