Abstract
This two-part, two-hour Tutorial will focus on vibration-induced phase noise in oscillator and non-oscillator components. Part I will cover the analysis aspects of the subject. Part II will deal with measurement methods and troubleshooting techniques. At the conclusion of the Tutorial, attendees should be able to: 1. Identify the sources of vibration-induced phase noise in components and circuit assemblies. 2. Translate between the different methods of specifying vibration sensitivity and allowable levels of vibration in components and electronic assemblies. 3. Sub-allocate phase noise and vibration sensitivity requirements to subassemblies to guide design decisions. 4. Evaluate the vibration sensitivity and vibration-induced phase noise of oscillator and non-oscillator components and signal generation circuit assemblies and be aware of techniques for reducing the vibration sensitivity. 5. Become familiar with measurement methods and troubleshooting techniques.
