Abstract

Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy of trifluorovinyl radical, C2F3, in an argon matrix has been investigated. A novel dc discharge-pulsed supersonic expansion produced high concentrations of the C2F3 radical from C2F3I/Ar, C2F3Br/Ar and C2F4/ Ar precursors. The fourth harmonic ofa YAG laser was also used to generate the C2F3 radical. Four vibrational frequencies have been found: v1 1780.4, v2 = 1282.4, v3 = 1216.9 and v4 = 900.0 cm-1. All of the vibrational frequencies are in good agreement with previous theoretical calculations; v2 and v3 are in good agreement with previous gas phase IR laser investigations.
