Abstract

The Raman spectra of gaseous CH 2:CHCl and CH 2:CHBr have been obtained with the aid of a multiple-reflection Raman tube and a 3-prism glass spectrograph. The infrared absorption spectra of these gases have been reinvestigated with a double-pass spectrometer equipped with CsBr, NaCl, and LiF prisms. The following wave numbers were assigned for the fundamentals: CH 2:CHCl, species a′ : 3121, 3086, 3030, 1608, 1369, 1279, 1030, 720, and 395 cm −1; species a″ : 941, 896, and 620 cm −1. CH 2:CHBr, species a″ : 3112, 3087, 3027, 1602, 1373, 1258, 1005, 612, and 344 cm −1; species a″ : 941, 901, and 582 cm −1. Thermodynamic functions have been calculated for the compounds in the ideal-gaseous state.
