Abstract
Abstract The infrared spectra of cyclo butanol, α-cyctobutanol- d 1 , β,β,β',β'- cyclo butanol- d 4 and α,β,β,β',β'- cyclo butanol- d 5 have been measured from 4000 to 250 cm −1 . The far-infrared spectra of cyclo butanol and cyclo butanol- d 4 vapor have been recorded to 70 cm −1 . The Raman spectra of each species have been recorded and depolarization values have been measured. The thirtythree fundamental vibrations have been assigned and support for the existence of more than one molecular configuration is presented. The ring puckering vibration was assigned to an absorption centered near 170 cm −1 in the far infrared spectrum of cyclo butanol. The barrier to internal rotation of the O-H group has been calculated to be 1.32 kcal mole .
