Abstract

The effect of vibrational relaxation has been introduced in the kinetic equations description of multiphoton excitation in polyatomic molecules. The resulting population distribution has been found as the solution of a partial differential equation, to which the set of kinetic equations was reduced by changing from discrete to continuous variables. The principal changes in the character of the population distribution, which arise as the result of the introduction of the effect of vibrational relaxation in the theoretical treatment, have been investigated.
