Abstract

We present a detailed study of surface phonon spectrum on the ZnSe(110) surface using the adiabatic bond-charge model within a repeated slab scheme. The structural and electronic information necessary for these calculations is taken from a self-consistent pseudopotential calculation. In particular, we find that the surface dynamics of ZnSe(110) are characterised by the presence of a rotational mode at the zone centre, three acoustic modes at a zone edge, and the Fuchs–Kliewer mode at the zone centre, similar to what is found for III–V(110) in general and GaAs(110) in particular.
