Abstract

We theoretically study acoustic phonon modes in hexagonal-cross-section nanowires with a wurtzite structure. As numerical examples, we examine the dispersion relations of solid and hollow GaN nanowires. The calculated dispersion curves are classified into six modes: A1, A2, B1, B2, E1, and E2 modes. It is found that the eigenfrequencies of the E2, B1, and B2 modes are particularly sensitive to the ratio of the inner side to outer side lengths of the hexagonal hollow nanowire.
