Abstract

We report inelastic and superelastic excitation function measurements for electron scattering from the ground vibrational quantum (0 0 0), the bending vibrational quantum (0 1 0) and the unresolved first bending overtone (0 2 0) and symmetric stretch (1 0 0) modes of the ground-electronic state in hot (700 K) carbon dioxide ( CO 2 ) molecules. The incident electron energy range of these measurements was 1–9 eV, with the relevant excitation functions being measured at the respective electron scattering angles of 30°, 60°, 90° and 120°. Where possible comparison is made to the often quite limited earlier data, with satisfactory agreement typically being found to within the cited experimental errors.
