Abstract

In this paper we consider the problem of dry magnetic separation simulations for granular material. Magnetic separator for dry magnetic enrichment of paramagnetic particles, in which the vibration effect is used as a disaggregation factor, is considered. Granular material is subjected to intense vibration, transferring it into the state of a “granular gas” before separation. A closed system of equations describing motion of paramagnetic particles (subjected to the magnetic force field) in the “granular gas” of non-magnetic particles is obtained. Analytical calculations give relatively simple equations that provide qualitative assessment of the paramagnetic particles separation process. The corresponding insights into the process facilitate numerical modeling of magnetic separation and can be also of useful for calculating the performance of magnetic separators in dry separation conditions with vibratory material feed into the operating area.
