Abstract
Ba0.85Ca0.15Zr0.1Ti0.90O3 -Portland cement composites (50 wt.%) were fabricated for water pollutant disinfection. These composites were able to clean a textile dye (methylene blue) and bacteria (E.coli) presented in simulated water using ultrasonic vibrations. Poled composites samples showed superior performance as compared to that of unpoled samples. This piezocatalytic effect was due to surface charges ignited through mechanical vibrations. Results were consistent for multiple cycles as there was not drop observed upto five cycles. Samples were physically intact after catalytic reactions as re-examined using X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy.
