Abstract

Vibrations in the pipeline cause serious operational and commercial problems. These systems have high resonance frequencies with a high dynamic gain factor due to their inherently low mechanical damping. These systems can respond with large vibration amplitudes when exposed to external turbulence, pressure pulsations, or external forces such as mechanical devices. Tuned Mass Dampers (TMDs) are an excellent way to reduce resonant vibrations. Although TMD is commonly used in civil and mechanical engineering, vibration control is rare in the piping industry. In this paper, TMDs are designed for M-shaped pipe structures after performing modal and harmonic analysis using ANSYS Workbench with and without TMD in the pipe structure.
