Abstract

Analytical solutions of laminated composite shells with embedded actuating layersare presented in this study. The magnetostrictive actuating layers are used tocontrol natural vibration of laminated composite shell panels. The first-ordershear deformation shell theory (FSDT) is used to represent the shell kinematicsand equations of motion. The exact solution for symmetric laminated shells withembedded actuating layers under simply supported boundary conditions is obtainedusing the Navier solution procedure. Negative velocity feedback control is used. The parametric effects of the position of the magnetostrictive layers, materialproperties and control parameters on the vibration suppression are investigated indetail.
