Abstract

AbstractThis research work aims to find the natural frequencies of a laminated composite folded plate structure using finite element method. Nine-noded isoparametric plate elements along with rotary inertia have been used in the study. Transformation matrix of order 6 × 6 has been applied before combining the system matrices. With five usual displacements, a small diagonal element for in-plane rotation has been used when forming stiffness and mass matrices. A number of parametric studies have been made for symmetric and antisymmetric, cross-ply laminated folded plate. All side fixed one-fold folded plates are analyzed for variations in crank angles, plate thicknesses and number of layers. It is observed that ridgeline in a folded structure makes it very stiff. Also, the edge constraints, thicknesses and crank angle have significant impact on free vibration of folded plates.KeywordsFolded plateLaminated compositesFinite elementFree vibration
