Abstract

A vibration platform for small-hole EDM based on voice coil motor was developed. The vibration platform is capable of avoiding the easy loss of vibration energy and the heat effect in ultrasonic vibration. The dynamic performance of the vibration platform was tested. It is found that the natural frequency of the vibration platform is about 400Hz. A series of vibration assisted small-hole EDM experiments were carried out. It is found that the machining efficiency was significantly improved, compared to the result of normal small-hole EDM.
