Abstract
The dynamic behaviour of elastic columns under the action of triangularly distributed sub-tangential forces is investigated to fill the gap between the classical conservative and typical non-conservative cases. The stability maps which are obtained from the eigenvalue analysis determine the divergence and flutter domains. It is shown that either flutter or divergence instability occurs depending on the non-conservativeness of the applied force.
