Abstract

The natural vibration of a cantilever beam that is partially covered by a double sandwich-type viscoelastic material is analyzed. In this paper, the differential equations of motion are derived employing Hamilton's principle. The frequency and the loss factor of the system are evaluated. The effects of different physical and geometrical parameters on the complex natural frequency and system loss factor are also discussed. A comparison of a double sandwich vs. single sandwich system is provided and, for our set of data, indicates that the double sandwich system provides better damping in most cases.
