Abstract

Abstract Veterans in the United States are not immune to becoming involved with the criminal justice system, and veterans treatment courts (VTCs) were created to better serve and take care of those who have served our country. Creating these treatment courts allows veterans to get the necessary treatment for mental health, substance use, and other issues that may arise. Instead of immediately sending veterans to traditional court, VTC connects veterans with health professionals and other professionals to help them navigate the issues at hand. This chapter focuses on the purpose of VTCs and how they are beneficial to veterans and their families.
