Abstract

The Automatic Identification System (AIS) provides abundant near real-time information of moving vessels i.e. ships, submarines etc. in the sea of the whole world and has been widely used in the fields of vessel collision avoidance, and motion prediction Maritime Situation Awareness (MSA) and ocean surveillance. Also the development of satellite based AIS is used which ultimately will help to expand the range of AIS. This will converge the data collection, which solves the problem of lacking AIS data in high-seas. At the same time, AIS provides a huge source for data mining for maritime traffic analysis. For this data mining the clustering algorithm called K-means is applied to deal with AIS.
