Abstract

We report bladder stones composed only of compacted laminated keratin from desquamative squamous epithelium within a bladder diverticulum, and describe endoscopic and histological findings. CASE REPORT A 73-year-old man underwent cystolitholapaxy, transurethral resection of the prostate and biopsy of a bladder diverticulum for severe bladder outlet obstruction causing stone formation and for evaluation of possible neoplastic changes in a diverticulum. Postoperatively the pathological diagnosis was benign prostatic hyperplasia, keratinizing desquamative squamous metaplasia of the diverticular mucosa (fig. 1) and bladder stones composed of laminated keratinous material (fig. 2).
