Saio, H. ; Wheeler, J. C. ; Cox, J. P. Abstract The present investigation of highly nonadiabatic radial pulsations for luminous He star models having the chemical composition Y, X(C) = 0.9, 0.1, notes that radial pulsations are more nonadiabatic in models with higher L/M values and higher effective temperatures. Three types of 'strange modes' appear among the very nonadiabatic pulsations in which the periods of ordinary pulsation modes deviate from the corresponding adiabatic values considerably. The properties of these modes can be explained by taking into account the importance of thermal waves in highly nonadiabatic pulsations. Numerical experiments are currently used in which nonadiabaticity is modified artificially, together with analytic arguments based on a simple plane parallel model.
