Abstract

Magnetization measurements of Cu (L-ALA)2 from room temperature down to 10 mK show Curie-Weiss behavior at high temperatures, corresponding to a g value of 2.135±0.04 and spin 1/2. AT 0.7 K there is a maximum in the magnetization associated with short range anti- ferromagnetic order. At 0.1 K there is a plateau attributed to frustration and it is followed by an increase in the magnetization below 50 mK due to loose spins. A 1-dimensional anti- ferromagnetic Heisenberg chain is used to explain some of the results.
