Abstract

Very low bit-rate video coding plays an important role in the development of various visual communication services over the public switched telephone network. In this paper, a new motion-compensated 3D wavelet transform (MC-3DWT) video coding scheme is presented. The new coding scheme, which substantially reduces the coding complexity, has a good performance in average PSNR, compression ratios and visual quality of reconstructions when compared to the other coding methods based on wavelet transforms. The new MC-3DWT coding scheme is suitable for VLSI implementation.
