Abstract

The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) has conducted research and development of three different configurations of vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) unmanned aircraft (UA): a quad tilt wing (QTW) UA that has tandem tilting wings and four propellers, a small tail-sitter UA that takes off and lands on its tail section, and an electric ducted-fan micro aerial vehicle (EDF-MAV) that has a lift-generating ducted fan at the center of its body. The overview of these three experimental VTOL UA is presented in this paper.
