Abstract

Male soldier flies, Inopus rubriceps (Macquart), were not trapped above 2.5 m, the height of an adjacent crop of sugarcane. However, female soldier flies gained considerable altitude on flights during dispersion. The maximum height recorded for a female was 8.6 m. The Welcome swallow, Hirundo neoxena Gould, was observed preying upon dispersing soldier flies above commercial sugarcane fields.
