Abstract

Results are presented of lidar sensing of the vertical distribution of the aerosol mass concentration in the atmospheric boundary layer above the Atlantic Ocean from onboard the Scientific Research Vessel Academician Mstislav Keldysh. It is found that under conditions of weak stratiform cloudiness the aerosol mass concentration can grow up to altitudes on the order of 1 km, remain constant, or decrease with increasing altitude. Under these conditions, the aerosol mass concentration has a pronounced vertical stratification.
