Abstract

Solutions of Vlasov's equations are derived for a class of curved plain magnetic fields. These fields can be made approximately selfconsistent, i.e. they result approximately from the plasma currents. Electrical fields are treated in a quasineutral approximation. Such solutions are of interest in the case of the collisionless shockwave observed at the earth's magnetopause. It is speculated in this connection that the shockwave may be explained by a turbulent state, which arises from the instabilities of the laminar flows discussed.
