Abstract

Hemagglutination of influenza viruses is markedly depending on pH-value. It was found that virus affinity of a hemagglutination-inhibiting agent, being present in purified virus suspensions, is depending on pH-value, too. The influence of pH-value on hemagglutination of influenza virus strains A/PR 8 and A/2/Sing/1/57 is examined, using virus suspensions with and without inhibitors. The results are discussed with special regard to mechanism of virus hemagglutination.
