Abstract

This paper uses the metaphor of the poet and poetry to explore the ideas of the Chilean biologist, Humberto Maturane. The poet always raises doubt as to the nature of reality. The poet's sharp and disturbing focus on the competing multi-verses is a serious challenge to established meaning. Because of this, the poet triggers in us a difference in how we think, dream, and experience. This process results in questioning, doubting, and searching. Thus through poetry we change in our understandings and in the realities we permit ourselves to know.
