Abstract

The way of life that is in harmony with nature used to be an imperative model for human survival, especially in rural areas. Today, this way of life represents a "forgotten concept", but a concept that modern architecture is increasingly striving for, first of all apostrophizing it through designing according to bioclimatic principles. The presented work identifies and analyses examples of vernacular architecture of the former settlement of Mužinac, with the aim of reinterpreting some of the principles of bioclimatic architecture. The analysis includes the following parameters: location selection in accordance with microclimatic conditions, orientation and form of buildings, use of natural materials from the immediate environment, traditional construction techniques, living comfort and functionality of the built space. The work based on the analysis of the remains of the former construction summarizes some of the elements of efficiency and sustainability, not only of the buildings but also of the entire former settlement, attributing to vernacular architecture the principles of green construction by enabling the "reuse" of these principles in contemporary architecture.
