Abstract

Vernacular settlements present a high degree of flexibility and a good capacity of adaptation to the environmental, social, economic and cultural conditions of the contexts in which they develop. The “VerSus. Lessons from Vernacular Heritage to Sustainable Architecture” research project, financed within the European Culture 2007-2013 project, is aimed at the codification of the lessons of environmental, socio-economic and socio-cultural lessons derived from the vernacular heritage, with the purpose of establishing strategies, solutions and good practices that may be adapted and used in an innovative way in the recovery of historical centres and in the design and planning of an appropriate and resilient architecture capable of responding to the requirements of contemporary life.
