Abstract

With the pace of construction of electrical grid, more districts are likely to be influenced by galloping of overhead transmission lines in winter. The galloping of overhead transmission lines may cause mechanical damages to metal fittings, insulators and transmission line towers. So it's of great significance to monitor the state and movement of overhead transmission lines. In transmission line galloping monitoring, there was a great diversity in results and performance of all kinds of monitoring equipment to overhead transmission lines from different manufactures because of the absence of national standard or industrial standard. In order to cope with this, a verification system to overhead transmission lines galloping monitoring equipment based on draw-line sensors was introduced, which could offer a basis for entering electrical grid to all transmission lines galloping monitoring equipment. In this paper, the principle of draw-line sensors in verification system was firstly illustrated. The draw-line sensors outputted the length of the lines that connect to the testing transmission line to calculate the position of the transmission line. Secondly, the structure of the verification system was presented, which included hardware and software. Then the verification system was used to examine the outputs from acceleration sensors and video monitoring system to inspect the function of verification system and test the performance of those monitoring devices.
