Abstract

TV White Spaces (TVWS) indicate frequency bands, which were reserved for licensed terrestrial TV broadcasting and open to unlicensed use under regulatory conditions. One important regulation which is common in all regulatory domains is no harmful interference should be received by licensed devices. On the other hand, interference between unlicensed devices is usually not regulated. As a result IEEE 802 LMSC started 802.19.1 standardization project to enable coexistence between unlicensed devices. In this paper we are investigating the throughput performance of heterogeneous and independently operating networks under the control of a 802.19.1 based system. The simulations are done with networks based on 802.11 and 802.22 standards. Our results indicate that the coexistence system and its protocols are stable and they increase the throughput of 802.11 based networks %30 percent if 3 TV channels are available.
