Abstract

Theoretical calculations of the scattered light intensity on spherical spherulites predict the occurrence of a maximum of the function I Hu /( cos 2 θ/2) 2 = f( U) for U = 4.09. In this work there were the discrepancies of f (U) from U = 4.09 for high density polyethylene samples obtained from different cooling conditions; they were interpreted as due to effects related to the differences between real and model spherulites, taking into consideration calculations of the scattered light intensity distribution. The changes of structure under uniaxial stretching of polyethylene films, prepared from samples with different densities and with different chain regularities, were also studied. The sample stretching was carried out at different temperatures. The deformations of spherulites and macroscopic specimens were compared. It was found that both the PE chain regularity and temperature exhibit a specific influence on the deformation process.
