Abstract

Ground-coupled heat pump (GCHP) is an efficient and sustainable air-conditioning technology. A demonstration house equipped with ground-coupled heat pump with solar seasonal heat storage (GCHPSSHS) system in severe cold zone has been carried out in Harbin, China. A dynamic simulation model using TRNSYS has been built for the house equipped with GCHPSSHS system. The model used a newly developed vertical ground heat exchanger (VGHE) module which considered coupled heat and moisture transfer in ground with variable soil properties and phase change of soil moisture (CHMT-VSP-PCSM). It was verified that the model with new VGHE module produced better simulation results (relative deviations are less than 2%), comparing with the field data. The average soil temperature and inlet and outlet temperatures of VGHE decrease obviously in the heating season. The GCHPSSHS system can meet the heating and cooling requirements of the building in general.
