Abstract

The object of research is the verbal means of creating artistic time in the English-language fantasy narrative. The purpose of this article is to consider the methods of using techniques and means of creating artistic time in the narrative text (analepsis, prolepsis, anachrony, achrony and others, according to G. Genette) on the material of the fourth part of the septology of Harry Potter adventures “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” by J. K. Rowling. Special attention is paid to the use of verbal and non-verbal means with temporal meanings. Research methods: identification and analysis of verbal means of creating the artistic time of this narrative in the original text of the British author and in the text of the Ukrainian translation by V. Morozov and S. Andruhovych; translation analysis of the work; statistical analysis of isolated verbal means of translation of artistic time; definition of translation operations. Conclusions: The most popular translation operations of J. K. Rowling’s narrative in “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” are the use of equivalent and variant counterparts, specification and generalization, and omission and addition. Ukrainian translators V. Morozov and S. Andruhovych used the strategy of communicative equivalent translation.
