Verbal and Non-Verbal Features in Deception Detection Systems

Abstract

Deception detection system is widely applied in different areas that are related to security, hiring new employees for business, criminal investigation, law enforcement, terrorism detection and others. There are different cues or signals that are used in implementing algorithms for deception detection. These cues are either verbal or non-verbal. The verbal cues mean the signal that extracted from speech, while non-verbal features related to facial expressions, eye gaze, head moments, eye blinking and other body gestures. The non-verbal features are so important and widely applied in recent studies. These features also achieve acceptable accuracy. While verbal features are less applied than non-verbal and achieve less detection accuracy.
