Abstract
We report on the case of a 64-year-old man who underwent the SMART surgical technique using retromuscular biosynthetic mesh for parastomal hernia. This patient had a terminal colostomy and Bricker ileal conduit following pelvic exenteration for locally advanced low rectal adenocarcinoma. Since then, he had undergone a first median incisional hernia repair using intraperitoneal biosynthetic mesh, followed a year later by the onset of a symptomatic parastomal hernia at the stoma sites and next to the median laparotomy scar. It was thus decided to perform a double parastomal hernia repair using the SMART technique with retromuscular biosynthetic mesh.
