Abstract
Objective To observe the efficacy of ventolin in the treatment of cough with heat syndrome. Methods 85 pediatric patients who had been diagnosed as upper respiratory tract infections by Western medicine and as cough with heat syndrome by Chinese medicine were randomly assigned to receive routine therapy alone ( control group ),or routine therapy plus ventolin ( study group ).The efficacy was assessed on day 3 and was classified as cure, improvement, and no failure. The indexes for allergic reactions were detected in all the patients and the patients with positive indexes were compared with those with negative indexes in both groups. Results There was no significant difference in the efficacy between the two groups ( Hc =1.127,P > 0.05 ).The efficacy differed significantly between the patients with positive indexes and those with negative indexes in the study group ( Hc =5.1,0.05=P > 0.01 ).Conclusions Ventolin has no obvious advantage in the treatment of cough with heat syndrome; but it has a certain efficacy for patients who have allergic reaction. Key words: Ventolin; Syndrome differentiation; Cough with heat syndrome
