Abstract

Analysis of a large database driven by a combination of The Women's Health Initiative (WHI) and Medicare Administration databases shows the incidence of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in women aged ≥65 years (annualized rate) is overall 4.06 per 1000 person-years, and the recurrence rate is 5.3 per 100 person-years, with a higher rate for both in African American women. Mortality was significant and was influenced by many factors that also influence the incidence and recurrence rate.
