Abstract

Extracorporeal corporeal membrane oxygenation has been used for circulatory and respiratory support in pediatric heart centers for over 40 years and, in the last 2 decades, this support has been extended into adult institutions. Pediatric heart centers should maintain a high level of expertise to manage this support modality. When initiating extracorporeal corporeal membrane oxygenation support, central and peripheral can be utilized. In adult patients, femoral vessels are commonly used for peripheral cannulation. In contrast, peripheral cannulation in pediatric patients commonly utilizes the neck vessels. This article is focused on the peripheral neck cannulation technique.
