Abstract

AbstractVenezuela is entering the year 2002 with a new political and economic context characterized by an almost complete control of power by the elected President Hugo Chavez and a new national constitution approved in December 15, 1999. This article gives a brief description of the Venezuelan political, economic, financial, legal, and regulatory systems and it examines the extent to which the changes brought about by this new political context affect foriegn investment and business practices in the country. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
