Abstract

This basic textbook on venereal diseases is amply illustrated with 200 photographs, 20 of which are in color. In the words of the British authors in the preface to the first edition, the book was "designed to give an account of modern methods of diagnosis and treatment." The current edition updates these methods and also includes new sections on herpes genitalis and candidiasis of the genital area. Although the authors make no pretense at trying to provide a complete bibliography, each chapter has references or at least a reference. Almost half the book is devoted to syphilis, and this section, by itself, would make the book worth having and reading. Particularly outstanding is the discussion on late syphilis, an area in which many of today's younger physicians and venerologists are notably weak.
