Abstract

Mean velocities and runout distances of a large dry and a large wet snow avalanches were measured at Makunosawa valley. Both started in the same zone and ran the same path. The runout distances were 2900 and 2700 m for the dry and wet ones, respectively. The mean velocity for the dry one was 43 m s −1 from the tremor of a geophone. For the wet snow avalanche, the mean velocity was 20 m s −1 from the video.
