Abstract

The author reflects on the two biggest holidays in the Christian world - Easter and Christmas - and their place in Czech culture. He also notes the etymology of their names and their foreign language equivalents. He also deals with Czech traditional customs associated with Easter (Passion Week, baking spreads and lambs, coloring eggs, Easter caroling) and Christmas (Advent, Christmas cookies, Christmas tree, gifts, Christmas day, Christmas carols).
